A Study on Growth of E.Coli in Tissue Culture of Kidney Epithelium and Cancer Cells

Abstract
"For the purpose of the observation of bacterial growth and cellular response in tissue cultured cells the inoculation of E. coli to the cultured Vero cells (green monkey kidney epithelium), PS cells (porcine kidney epithelial cells) and HeLa cells (cancer cells) resulted in the followings 1. E. coli grew better in the media containing the PS ceIls, Vero cells and HeLa cells than without the celIs. 2. Maximum growth of E. coli was usually observed about 48hrs after inoculation and the maximum number was billion to 1,000 billion times of inoculation dose. 3. When inoculated small amount of the bacteria the latent period for about 24hrs was appeared, whereas in large amount there was no incubation period. 4. There was some relationships between the bacterial growth and the destruction of cells, especially the maximum growth of bacteria resulted in the maximum destruction of cells 5. The mode of cell destruction was the crowdiness and the appearance of granules in order, and when inoculated the large amount of E. coli the whole cells underwent the destruction but in small amount the destruction began at local areas followed by gradual extension."
